Subathon Milestone Ideas That Keep Viewers Subscribed

Subathon milestone ideas by type: subscription, follow, cheer and donation milestones, plus pacing and reward milestones that keep chat invested for hours.

A subathon with only an end timer is a marathon with no water stations. Viewers see the counter grow, but nothing breaks the monotony. Milestones solve that: small, visible goals with rewards that give the chat a reason to subscribe again and again. This guide organizes 50+ subathon milestone ideas by type, so you can build a balanced milestone list for your event.

🏆 How to read this list

Pick 3-5 from each category, order them by size, and publish the list before the event. For the technical setup (how the milestone widget works in OBS), see our milestones guide.

Subscription Milestones (the core)

These are the milestones viewers understand instantly, because subs are the currency of the event:

  • 50 total subs — Thank-you tier: you read every sub name live and add a special overlay flash.
  • 100 subs — 5-minute dance or a silly outfit change.
  • 150 subs — Full overlay reskin (new colors and layout) for the rest of the event.
  • 200 subs — Chat picks the next game segment for 30 minutes.
  • 250 subs — You do a blindfolded challenge or play inverted controls.
  • 300 subs — New emote or sound alert unlocked (a repeatable reward that keeps paying).

Follow and Cheer Milestones

Not every viewer can afford a sub. Follows and bits give everyone a way to contribute to a milestone:

  • +100 follows — Community showcase: you give a shoutout round or run a small giveaway.
  • +200 follows — You play the most requested game from the follow suggestions.
  • 10,000 bits — Battle pass: a cosmetic overlay state or a special intro.
  • 25,000 bits — Streamer vs chat challenge (e.g., ranked match with chat on a secondary account).

Donation Milestones

If you run donations (via StreamElements or Streamlabs), add money-based milestones too:

  • $100 total — Fast-food snack break or a drink of choice.
  • $250 — You cook or make a snack live (a cozy segment viewers love).
  • $500 — 24-hour content target: if reached, you extend or plan a marathon.
  • $1,000 — Charity donation or a new segment announced for next month.

Pacing Milestones (anti-dip)

Subathons can last days. Pacing milestones keep the energy up during the slow hours:

  • Every 6 hours — Energy reset: stretch break, snack, and a 10-minute chat-only segment.
  • Viewer-count milestone: at a peak viewer number, you run a spontaneous mini-game.
  • Gifted-sub streak: when 10 gifted subs land in 30 minutes, you do a thank-you special.

Reward Milestones vs Count Milestones

Separate "count milestones" (just a number, no action) from "reward milestones" (something happens). Count milestones are fine for tracking, but reward milestones are what drive subscriptions. For a full list of rewards, see our subathon rewards post; for the psychology behind incentives, check incentive ideas.

Build it in minutes

With TriBathon's free milestone widget, create a milestone for each reward, show the active one on your OBS overlay and let it update automatically with subs, cheers and donations. No manual counting mid-stream.

About the author

Ignacio Silvera@silvernuy
Ignacio started out as a multi-platform viewer and kept noticing the same complaint from streamers: subathon timers only worked well on one platform. If you streamed on Twitch and Kick at once, or moved between platforms, you had to run separate bots and reconcile two timers by hand — or just leave one platform's events uncounted. TriBathon was built to fix exactly that: one timer that adds up subs, gifts, bits and donations across every platform at once, instead of forcing you to pick one.
